Convention Event: Council of Dragons and Adventure Writing Workshop

We are running an event in which we create exciting role-playing adventures together for conventions. The plan is to learn about adventure writing in the convention format together and then run the adventures at Council of Dragons, an upcoming international TTRPG convention hosted by Dragon Legion in Göttingen, Germany.

Event Date

The event will take place from: September the 8th – September the 13th 2026
You will be traveling to the event on September the 7th – September the 14th 2026

Event Program

You are expected to come to the event with a rough draft of an adventure. You choose the system! The adventure should be a convention adventure which runs for 3-4 hours. At the event we will playtest each other’s adventures and refine them. We will run short workshops to focus on improving our adventure writing skills as well as help new Game Directors run convention games.

On the final weekend we will focus on the Council of Dragons where we will run the adventures we created. It is also expected that all participants help out at the convention, to make it run smoothly, however, this is not the main focus.

Adventures

We expect you to come prepared with an adventure you created. You should be able to run the adventure in 3-4 hours. Ideally, you also have characters with interesting backgrounds ready. The characters should be tied to the adventure. You choose the system!

We would love to see some adventures that use our World of Discordia Role-Playing game. The Discordia game is the system the Dragon Legion created to take RPGs into schools. If you want to have the current version of the rules, contact your National Coordinator, they will help make sure you have everything you need.

The adventure types we want to create are convention adventures, meaning adventures short enough to play at a convention. These adventures provide characters as well, as there is not enough time for the players to create their own characters. This is actually not just a restriction but also a wonderful opportunity. We are looking for adventures that tell stories where the player characters are the main protagonists or antagonists. Meaning the stories are about them. That means you can create really interesting background stories and relationships between the characters as well as secrets that come out during the adventures.

A second option is that you create an introduction adventure which introduces new players to role-playing. These adventures should be really short, maybe an hour, and be especially easy to play for people who want to discover role-playing games. They should give players a good experience of role-playing, making them want more. We will have a lot of high school students at the convention as well as people who have never played before.

You need to have a title and a description of the adventure ready at the beginning of September. We will ask you to register your adventure with the convention so that people can sign up for your game ahead of time.

Do I need to have any role-playing experience? What is expected?

Yes, you should have played role-playing games before. We also suggest that you have a little experience in writing role-playing adventures, even if it’s just for your own group.

We do expect each participant to run at least 1 game during the Council of Dragons! So please only apply if you are comfortable with running a game for strangers.

How do we work?

We only have a relatively short time in which we finalize the adventures, so we will rely on everyone being heavily involved. This also means that we expect you to bring a device to write on, such as a laptop or tablet.

You do not need to work alone! You can also work together in small groups and even run the same adventure each at the convention.

Who can apply?

You should be at least 18 years old and not older than 30. We can only accept participants from the countries listed below. Currently slots are still available for:

  • Italy
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Iceland
  • Serbia
  • Denmark

All applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the coordination team. Applications will be chosen and both the accepted and rejected applicants will be notified by email two weeks before travel day. We are planning to close the applications at the latest by the beginning of August 2026 but we might close earlier! The application forms will be open until all slots have been filled, so applying sooner gives you an advantage.

What about accommodation and food?

The adventure writing workshops will take place in a group house which offers us enough room to hold the workshops and to work in groups. On Friday we will move to the location of the Council of Dragons. Here we will stay in humanitarian tents on cots for the remainder of the event. Be mindful, we can’t guarantee power outlets within the tents, so power banks might be an important addition to your luggage.

The group house offers us the opportunity to cook our own meals. We will have beds in shared rooms.

More about the accommodation will follow soon…

What about the event program, sightseeing and resting?

From Tuesday – Thursday we will be focusing on finalizing and playtesting your adventures.

We expect you to turn up on time for the workshop sessions but there will be plenty of time to relax and sleep (however, you are responsible for getting enough sleep!).

Included in the event are:

  • Flights from an airport in your area, but it might not be the closest one since we need to take cheap flights for everyone to stay within the budget.
  • Accommodation in Germany.
  • Food and drinks.
  • Entry ticket for Council of Dragons.
  • Travels within Germany within the scope of the event.

Event Fee:

  • 40 Euros for Dragon Legion Members.
  • 50 Euros for non-members.

Funding

The event is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union that supports intercultural exchange of young people. This allows us to cover most parts of the travel costs and accommodation costs for the participants.

Why does the event have a fee if it gets funding?

We have a very tight budget and we would love to pay for everyone but we simply can’t. With the fees of 40 € / 50 € we can pay for the budget overrun so that we don’t end up paying extra for the event. We think this is a good price for a week of adventure creation activities, including food, accommodation and travel. If you cannot afford the fee, but still want to participate please give a statement about it in your application. We know there are bad situations in some countries right now and we want to make sure that everyone has the chance to be part of this event, so we decided to have 1-2 slots for free for those who really need them. Please don’t abuse this. We cover the travel costs for the flight, the travel from the airport to our location, lodging, food and drinks and any group activities. You just need to take care of your travel to the airport in your home country.

Who is organizing the event?

The people behind this event are active members of the Dragon Legion, young people who are interested in cultural exchange, creating innovative events, and role-playing games. We are all volunteers who organize this in our free time.
