We are running an event in which we create exciting role-playing adventures together, set in the dark fantasy world of Nexor (a game world and rules system that the Dragon Legion is publishing for its school activities). The plan is to learn about adventure writing together and then run the adventures at DreieichCon, Germany’s biggest role-playing convention, in Dreieich near Frankfurt, Germany.
We have big plans for our new RPG and we are going to publish a starter set which we will give away for free in schools. We want to create a massive player community and we will keep supporting the system which is a game created by the community for the community. Become part of this massive project!
Event Date
The event will take place from: November 10th – November 17th 2024
You will be traveling to the event on November 9th and your departure will be on the 18th.
Event Program
The event will first focus on the creation of convention adventures. We will have a free day which you can use for sightseeing, then we will have a day on which we have a meeting with politicians and on the final weekend we will focus on DreieichCon where we will run the adventures we created.

Adventures
We will be creating convention adventures using the World of Discordia Role-Playing game. The World of Discordia game is the system the Dragon Legion created to take RPGs into schools. The rules and setting are freely available here: www.thediscordia.com
Please be aware that we are still putting the final elements together for the schools to use. The materials on the website will be finalized by the end of September.
When it comes to the setting, we will leave a lot of freedom to the designers. We believe that convention adventures don’t have to stick completely to the core setting, there is a lot of creative freedom to create something that follows your own idea. However, we do ask you to follow the World of Discordia rules because as a community we want to spread the game and make it big in schools.
The adventure types we want to create are convention adventures, meaning adventures short enough to play at a convention. These adventures provide characters as well, as there is not enough time for the players to create their own characters. This is actually not just a restriction but also a wonderful opportunity. We are looking for adventures that tell stories which are highly relevant for the characters. It means that you can create really interesting background stories and relationships between the characters as well as secrets that come out during the adventures. Aim for an adventure that can be played in 4 hours.
A second option is that you create an introduction adventure which takes new players into the World of Discordia. These adventures should be really short, maybe an hour, and showcase the basic rules and give players a good experience of role-playing, making them want more.
We want these adventures to be used not only during DreieichCon, we also want to use them in other conventions and at schools.
Inspiration for the adventures can be found in the covers we painted at the Fantasy Art Event in Florence. The event is currently still ongoing, but as soon as it is done we will post the covers here and you can choose to use one of these covers for your adventure. Let yourself be inspired by the story the cover suggests.
Do I need to have any role-playing experience? What is expected?
Yes, you should have played role-playing games before. We also suggest that you have a little experience in writing role-playing adventures, even if it’s just for your own group.
We create the adventures together and we want to use them during the convention. We do expect each participant to run at least 1 World of Discordia game during DreieichCon! So please only apply if you are comfortable with running a game.
How do we work?
We are planning to create small teams that work on adventures efficiently. We want to group these teams around team leaders who are good at creating an exciting story but can also be relied on when it comes to taking care of their team and getting everyone involved.
We only have a relatively short time in which we write the adventures, so we will rely on everyone being heavily involved. This also means that we expect you to bring a device to write on, such as a laptop or tablet.
Who can apply?
You should be at least 18 years old and not older than 30. We can only accept participants from the countries listed below. Currently slots are still available for:
- Denmark
- Estonia
- Germany
- Greece
- Iceland
- Poland
- Spain
All applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the coordination team. The best applications will be chosen and both the accepted and rejected applicants will be notified. We are planning to close the applications at the latest by the end of September 2024 but we might close earlier! The application will be open until all slots have been filled, so applying sooner gives you an advantage.
What about accommodation and food?
The adventure writing workshop will take place in a group house which offers us enough room to hold the workshops and to work in groups. On Thursday we will move to a hotel in Dreieich where we will stay during the convention and until we leave.
The group house offers us the opportunity to cook our own meals. We will have beds in shared rooms.
More about the accommodation will follow soon…
What about the event program, sightseeing and resting?
From Sunday – Wednesday we will be focusing on creating adventures. We will stay in the group house where we will During the event we will spend some time outside, visiting locations that can give us the best impressions of Germany. You will actually get a day off which you can spend in Frankfurt or anywhere you like. We will support you in finding interesting trips to take.
We expect you to turn up in time for the workshop sessions but there will be plenty of time to relax and sleep (however, you are responsible for getting enough sleep!). We will also have a free day which you can use to explore Germany on your own or to rest and recover.
Included in the event are:
- Flights from your home country and an airport in your area (might not be the closest one since we need to take cheap flights for everyone to stay within the budget)
- Accommodation in Germany
- Food and drinks
- Entry fees for places we visit together
- Entry ticket for DreieichCon
- Travels within Germany
Event Fee:
- 40 Euros for Dragon Legion Members
- 50 Euros for non-members
Funding
The event is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union that supports intercultural exchange of young people. This allows us to cover most parts of the travel costs and accommodation costs for the participants.
Why does the event have a fee if it gets funding?
We have a very tight budget and we would love to pay for everyone but we simply can’t. With the fees of 40 € / 50 € we can pay for the budget overrun so that we don’t end up paying extra for the event. We think this is a good price for a week of adventure creation activities, including food, accommodation and travel. If you cannot afford the fee but still want to participate please give a statement about it in your application. We know there are bad situations in some countries right now and we want to make sure that everyone has the chance to be part of this event, so we decided to have 1-2 slots for free for those who really need them. Please don’t abuse this. We cover the travel costs for the flight, the travel from the airport to our location, lodging, food and drinks and any group activities. You just need to take care of your travel to the airport in your home country.
Who is organizing the event?
The people behind this event are active members of the Dragon Legion, young people who are interested in cultural exchange, creating innovative events, and role-playing games. We are all volunteers who organize this in our free time.
