This year we’ll go to Ribe in Denmark and work on adventure writing. This event will be a bit different from what you are used to, as it will be bigger, inviting 54 people to join. 40 of these slots are meant to teach you how to create the big Dragon Legion teaching game for 25-30 players.
The Danish Viking Adventure Game II:
Together we will create the follow up adventure for the 2023 Viking Adventure Game, where we worked with Gorm the Old, the first king of Denmark. This time we will dive into the following historical tale of King Harald Bluetooth of Denmark, his son Sweyn Forkbeard, and King Otto of Saxony.
As a participant on this track you will become part of a team creating one of 5 storylines within the overarching story of the fall of King Harald Bluetooth of Denmark. Each storyline takes up a unique perspective on the historical events and you, together with your team, choose what perspective that is and how it impacts the overarching story.
Will your players be on Sweyn or Harald’s side in their game of kings? Or even christian saxonians from Otto’s reach, trying to save the souls of heathens? Maybe, you would rather tell the story of the remaining magical seers, the Vølv and Goder, fighting to keep their faith alive? The perspective is up to you and your group.
We do not expect the stories to be perfected during the week. The most important goal of the week is to create the skeletal structure of the entire game to be completed at a later date, as well as you learning about Danish history and culture. This means that this event is for everyone, whether you have experience in creating games or not.
Can you be besides a different type of participant?
Why, yes!
We have 3 spots for dedicated people who want to learn more about being a facilitator of Erasmus+ projects, especially the Wellbeing Host skillset. If you want to gain one of these spots, please go to the Discord Server of Dragon Legion to contact your National Coordinator.
In addition to this, each country has a dedicated group leader, who won’t have to follow a track, but will have to complete other quests along the way. These spots also accept people above the age of 30, but not below the age of 20. But… That doesn’t add up, what about the remaining 4 spots? Well, that’s because our math is a bit different, but don’t worry, all 56 plus guests are part of our math 😉
Event Date
The event will take place from: October the 12th – October the 17th 2026
You will be traveling to the event on October the 11th – October the 18th 2026
Event Program
Sunday the 11th of October is a travel day, where we will all gather in Ribe.
Monday the 12th of October will be when we go to the Viking Center to experience what it was like to be real vikings.
Tuesday the 13th of October in the morning will continue with more in depth history about the topic at the Viking Museum.
Wednesday the 14th, Thursday the 15th, and Friday the 16th of October are work days.
Saturday the 17th of October is most of all a workday, but will end in some outro games, where we make our memories last and plan for additional adventures together.
Sunday the 18th of October is a travel day, where you all will travel back home.
Do I need to have experience? What is expected?
Not if you apply to be a regular participant, that is for everyone. We do not expect you to have a finished product by the end of the week, just the skeletal structure of a good story, that will be completed at a later date. You are welcome, however, to sign up for the intensive team that reviews, finishes and polishes the game. That group will work at a more professional level to make the game ready for publishing.
The other options does demand a certain level of experience. You will also need an interest in people as well as a certain level of empathy, as you will be a safety person for others.
Who can apply?
You should be at least 16 years old and not older than 30 to get into the two main tracks. We can only accept participants from the countries listed below. Currently slots are still available for:
- Poland
- Germany
- Romania
- Iceland
- Estonia
- Denmark
- Italy
All applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the coordination team. Applications will be chosen and both the accepted and rejected applicants will be notified by email two weeks before travel day. We are planning to close the applications at the latest by the middle of September 2026 but we might close earlier! The application forms will only be open until all slots have been filled, so applying sooner gives you an advantage.
What about accommodation and food?
The event will take place in the tourist town Ribe, where lodging will be done in apartments, and work will be done in two conference rooms, which offers us enough room to hold the workshops and to work in groups.
The apartments will offer us the opportunity to cook our own meals, however it is one of the trackless quests to help coordinate food every other day for 3 apartments at a time, so each apartment only have to cook dinner twice during the event.
Smoking is not allowed within the apartments nor the conference rooms. Alcohol is not allowed.
What about the event program, sightseeing and resting?
From Tuesday – mid Saturday will be focussed on working. There will be plenty of working hours that can be moved around as you see fit to experience the town.
We expect you to turn up on time for the workshop sessions but there will be plenty of time to relax and sleep (however, you are responsible for getting enough sleep!). Only one lecture is mandatory, and that is the lecture about Erasmus+ and the work of Dragon Legion Saturday, the rest are offers.
Included in the event are:
- Flights from an airport in your area, but it might not be the closest one since we need to take cheap flights for everyone to stay within the budget.
- Accommodation in Denmark.
- Food and drinks.
- Entry ticket for any places that are part of the planned schedule.
- Travels within Germany within the scope of the event.
Event Fee:
- 40 Euros for Dragon Legion Members.
- 50 Euros for non-members.
Funding
The event is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union that supports intercultural exchange of young people. This allows us to cover most parts of the travel costs and accommodation costs for the participants.
Why does the event have a fee if it gets funding?
We have a very tight budget and we would love to pay for everyone but we simply can’t. With the fees of 40 € / 50 € we can pay for the budget overrun so that we don’t end up paying extra for the event. We think this is a good price for a week of adventure creation activities, including food, accommodation and travel. If you cannot afford the fee, but still want to participate please give a statement about it in your application. We know there are bad situations in some countries right now and we want to make sure that everyone has the chance to be part of this event, so we decided to have 1-2 slots for free for those who really need them. Please don’t abuse this. We cover the travel costs for the flight, the travel from the airport to our location, lodging, food and drinks and any group activities. You just need to take care of your travel to the airport in your home country.
Who is organizing the event?
The people behind this event are active members of the Dragon Legion, young people who are interested in cultural exchange, creating innovative events, and role-playing games. We are all volunteers who organize this in our free time.
